How to Make a Candle Last Longer (Without Needing Magic)

vanille des neiges

Want your candles to last longer? Good news you don’t need spells, rituals, or a degree in wax science. Just a few simple tricks to keep your favourite candle burning beautifully (and not behaving like a tiny volcano).

1. Trim the wick to 5 mm before each use

Think of it as giving your candle a little haircut. A neat wick burns cleaner, avoids soot, and behaves much better unlike most fringe cuts attempted at home.

2. Let the wax melt all the way to the edges

If you blow it out too early, you’ll get the dreaded “tunnelling”: a deep hole straight down the middle. Not cute. Let it melt edge to edge so your candle doesn’t look like it’s trying to dig its way to Australia.

3. Keep your candle away from draughts

A candle in a draught is like someone trying to run while being poked repeatedly chaotic, messy, and short-lived. Keep it out of the wind and it’ll burn calmly and gracefully, like it thinks it’s in a spa.

4. Re-centre the wick after blowing it out

While the wax is still soft, gently nudge the wick back to the centre. This prevents wonky burns next time unless you like the idea of your candle leaning dramatically to one side like it’s in a period drama.

Follow these simple, slightly silly steps and your candle will burn longer, smell better, and live its best life which means you get more cosy evenings without buying a new candle every five minutes. Everyone wins.
